A note from Adarga's CEO on the UK, US agreement to enhance cooperation on AI in defence

An Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Statement has been signed by the U.S. Department of Defense and UK Ministry of Defence, setting shared strategic objectives related to AI readiness. This will deepen AI cooperation between the two Allies, maintaining and increasing interoperability and promoting values-based global leadership for the responsible development, procurement, and use of AI in defence.

Adarga's CEO and founder, Rob Bassett Cross, responds:

"Adarga is committed to deep, long-term partnerships with our closest allies. AI technology is in the unique position to embolden thinking across the allied defence community by pushing the boundaries of real-time knowledge-sharing with the countries whose security priorities are in lockstep with our own. We embrace these new partnership models."

"We applaud this innovative partnership between the UK and the USA, two of the largest AI superpowers. Doubling down on cross-fertilisation of expertise, research and commercial applications will strengthen and accelerate the vital deployment of AI to solve mission-critical challenges.

The Pentagon’s request for the largest research budget in the history of the department signals a new era in national security. Emerging technologies like AI are no longer on the periphery of the defence agenda in the US and the UK: they are core to each and every mission for both of our forces.

But developing superior and interoperable capabilities requires equal understanding of how to responsibly and safely employ algorithms in a world where legislation is struggling to keep pace with the demands presented by this fast-moving technology. Cooperation will be critical to both mitigating risk and capitalising on the opportunities afforded by AI.

I look forward to seeing the momentum this partnership drives across the U.S. Department of DefenseUK Ministry of Defence and our allies. I am already shuttling regularly between the UK and the US to support this shared agenda. Companies like Adarga are at the front and centre of bringing to life the AI Cooperation Statement of Intent.

Ideas and areas to further develop this cooperation are always welcome here."
