China has set out plans to use AI to revolutionise its economy and to secure global leadership of the fourth industrial revolution.

In a new report, the vice president of the Adarga Research Institute, Sam Olsen, Di Cooke, and Dr William Matthews, explore how the Chinese government is implementing a range of policies and regulations that are designed to complement these applications of AI.

Among other aspects of China's strategy, the report looks at:

➤ Plans to roll out AI domestically across the Chinese economy, state administration, and in the provision of social services.
➤ How ethics, privacy, and safety are all a key focus of Chinese AI regulation.
➤ China’s use of its AI strategy and regulation as a foreign policy tool.
➤ How China’s export of AI technology is promoting the acceptance of its AI regulations and governance, especially in the Global South.
