New Defence Artificial Intelligence Strategy reinforces the UK's ambition to become a world-leader in AI

This is a welcome restatement of the UK Ministry of Defence's commitment to strengthen security, modernise the UK’s armed forces and a clear recognition that the use of AI is a key to achieving that objective. As a global AI power, the MOD will be able to lean heavily on the UK’s thriving AI ecosystem to develop and deploy world-leading technologies.   

But there is no question that speed is critical in ensuring we retain a strategic advantage over potential adversaries. With that, we welcome the vital importance the strategy puts on close partnership with industry and our allies to increase the pace at which AI solutions can be developed, adopted and deployed. We also support the commitment to reduce the barriers that make it more challenging for innovative SMEs to enter the supply chain. A vibrant and diverse ecosystem of industry partners will be critical to the successful delivery of this strategy.
